The addiction treatment industry is huge and only loosely regulated. Quality control is severely lacking. Only a tiny percentage of rehabs invest in systematically following up with their patients after treatment to answer the most important question -- how many of their patients are actually recovering from addiction?
Even fewer align their interests with yours and promise to cover the cost of a second episode of treatment if the first one doesn’t work.
When my daughter was 19, we learned that she was guzzling enough alcohol to potentially kill herself on a regular basis. During multiple crises over the next six terrifying years, we knew we had to find effective treatment for her or we would lose her. Each time, we were forced to choose which rehab to send her to according to how nice the admission counselor was on the phone, rather than the accurate success rate data we craved.
Finding Effective Treatment
After Karina recovered, I set out to develop the accurate recovery rate data families deserved. I started a research company that has now followed up after treatment with more than 40,000 former patients from rehabs across the country.
Karina and I brought this quest full circle in 2020 by starting the nonprofit Conquer Addiction. You can search for treatment by location, level of care, special features or insurance, and see a list of rehabs meeting your criteria. Those with the best independently-validated success rates will appear at the top of the list. Click through to the rehab’s page to see their contact information as well as their recent post-treatment outcomes.
For example, you can see that 50.0% of patients who left Excel Treatment Center between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024 responded to Vista's research one year later and reported not having used alcohol or illicit drugs for at least the last 30 days. Since the average rehab success rate is only 36%, Excel could be a wonderful choice for your family:
Introducing Conquer Addiction's Five Star Market
We recently took this one step further by inviting the best rehabs to join Conquer Addiction’s Five Star Market. To do so, a rehab has to recommend a full episode of treatment for an all-inclusive cash price. But what makes the Market totally unique is this – if your family member relapses within 90 days of completing the recommended treatment, the treatment center promises to bring them back into treatment for at least 21 more days for free!
Unfortunately, well less than 1% of rehabs are investing in systematically following up with patients after treatment to prove how effective their treatment is. Even fewer have the success rates to qualify for a 5-star rating on Conquer Addiction and be invited to join the Market.
This means it’s unlikely you’re going to find a Market rehab a short drive away. However, if you need to fly your loved one to one of these centers, the greater likelihood that they will actually recover may make this inconvenience worthwhile for you.
A father from Virginia who sent his adult son to a Market center in Utah had this to say. “Sam had been to three other rehabs, but nothing worked. After attending Brighton Recovery Center for 45 days, I’ve got my son back!”
There are undoubtedly many other excellent rehabs besides the small number on our website. Conquer Addiction has embarked on an innovative quest to identify hundreds of other excellent rehabs using anonymized claims data over the next year or two.
Get Conquer Addiction's Recommendations Anonymously
By the way, unlike most other “Find the best rehab” directories on the internet, Conquer Addiction does not benefit in any way if you choose a rehab from our site. Not only are our rehab recommendations unbiased, but you can access them anonymously. In keeping with the mission of our nonprofit, we simply want to connect families with truly-effective treatment.
If someone you love is struggling with addiction, I hope you find Conquer Addiction’s rehab directory and other resources helpful.
